This Is Cinerama (Reissue) 1973

I've been reading a lot recently about the history of the first successful widescreen film format, Cinerama. I always thought it was a cool process, especially the three strip version. It was revolutionary at the time and is still fascinating 56 years later. The first film released in this format was the travelogue This Is Cinerama. It played for several months in theaters around the country, including a long run at the Empire in Kansas City. The Empire was the only theater in KC that could show the three strip Cinerama movies. It was upgraded in 1956 a few years after This Is Cinerama came out. This ad from 6/15/73 is for a 70mm reissue. The Empire stopped playing three strip after How The West Was Won was released in 1963. I need to make a trip out to Los Angeles or Seattle to visit the only two theaters that can still show three strip. It would be worth the long flights to see something as jaw dropping as this great film.
