I love this ad from the 5/26/78 Kansas City Star. This date marked the one year anniversary of Star Wars' engagement at the Glenwood Theatre. It's incomprehensible to me that a movie could play one theater for an entire year, but movie exhibition was a lot different then. You didn't have a movie opening on thousands of screens like you do know. In fact, Close Encounters was approaching the six month mark at this point. Both movies were still drawing good crowds at this point although Star Wars was about to end its run. I saw both movies at this theater and they were definitely major events of my childhood.

74duckchinaOh, I wish I could have seen both of these movies here, back in the day!
Hey, Mike!
Found your blog by backtracking my hits, thanks for the listing!
Glad to find someone with a like interest. We got started in the movie ad blogging close to the same time, in the same month.
Between the two of us we should be posting a whole lot of fun ads from the past! Can't wait to see what you've got, and hope you enjoy seeing what's in my scrapbook at www.HeldOverMovies.blogspot.com.
I really enjoy your blog Frederick. It's great to see local movie listings, regardless of where they're from. Thanks for checking my blog out.
The Sound of Music played the Midland for a year maybe longer during it's road show. In 70MM Todd AO.
